Macha Tulama 50th Anniversary

Press Release

The early 1960s holds a special historical place in the history of the Oromo national struggle.  We can count the establishment of the Macha Tulama Association (MTA) among the many major events that emerged during this decade and changed the landscape of the Oromo national movement.  In 2011, MTA-USA was created in North America as a not-for-profit organization to rebuff the de-legalization of the Association by the Ethiopian government, and also to pursue the dreams and aspirations of our forefathers and mothers in protecting and nurturing Oromummaa –the Oromo culture, identity, and nationalism – as well as standing for the inalienable rights of the Oromo people.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that MTA-USA has decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of MTA on August 1, 2014, in Washington DC. We hereby request all Oromos, community associations, and political organizations to mark their calendars to participate in this glorious celebration and not to plan any parallel event on this day. The venue and other details will be posted in due time on the MTA-USA’s website http://www.machatulama-usa.org/. Please feel free to send your comments toMTanniversary50@gmail.com.

Respectfully,
Macha Tulama Association
50th Anniversary Organizing Committee
